What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a collagen stimulator made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible material that has been used safely in medicine for decades. Unlike a hyaluronic acid filler it does not add instant volume. Instead the microparticles create a controlled response in the deeper layers of the skin that prompts your body to lay down its own new collagen.
Because the result is your own collagen rather than a gel, the change is gradual and looks entirely natural — people tend to notice that you look well rather than that you have had something done. At MedSkin Studios, Sculptra is usually delivered as a course of two or three sessions and suits generalised volume loss and laxity across the mid and lower face.
Sculptra works gradually in three stages:

- Treatment: The suspension is injected deeply across the treatment area using a needle or cannula, usually taking thirty to forty-five minutes.
- Aftercare: You will be asked to massage the treated areas several times a day for five days. Mild swelling, bruising and tenderness settle within a week.
Sculptra is not an instant treatment. Any initial fullness is simply swelling and settles within days, with the real collagen-driven change appearing from around six weeks and continuing to build for up to six months. A course of two to three sessions six weeks apart is typical, and results can last up to two years.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sculptra hurt?
Discomfort is mild. Numbing cream or local anaesthetic is used and the product itself is usually mixed with anaesthetic, so most clients describe pressure rather than pain.
What is the downtime after treatment?
Mild swelling, bruising and tenderness for a few days is common. Most clients return to work immediately but should avoid strenuous exercise for a day or two, and must massage the treated areas as instructed.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually two to three sessions spaced around six weeks apart, depending on how much volume needs rebuilding. Your practitioner will confirm this at your consultation.
When will I see results?
